

Reschen, 31.01.2010: More than 70 riders on Snowkites have met for te weekend at Reschensee. in South Tirolia to crown their World Chapion. The local athletes got challenged by rider from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Italy, the tchech republic and Norway.
For three days the colourful parachutes were dominating the landscape between Landeck and Meran. The steady winds from northern direction were pulling the riders by the power of wind using either snowboards or skis. The championships were held in the disciplines racing and freestyle park. Passing a race course the rider has to be as fast as possible and has to overtake all other riders in a triangular course wich takes about 15 minutes. Top speed up to 100 km/h can be reached. The other discipline freestyle shows spectaculare moves to the audit. The location Reschensee offered every day suitable conditions. Even if the wind was not perfect all disciplines ended up with valid rankings.
Snowkite World Champion and fastest racer using his skis was Markus Pompl/ GER (32, Bräunlingen). Fastest Snowkiter using the snowboard was Fabian Haberkorn/ GER (28, Meran). The women category was dominated in Race-Ski bay Kari Schibevag from Norway (32) travelling from a foto shooting at the Etna Mountain. Fatses girl on the snowboard was local rider Iris Tonak from Meran (26).
Freestyle-Ski also Norway showed that ice and snow are longer available for tranings up north: Björn Kaupang (21,Norway) won the male ranking and Kari Schibevag (32,also Norway) won the female ranking. The third Norwegian participant got crowned woth incredible Freestyle-Snowboard performing Remi Meum (25, Norway). The Meran local Iris Tonak also performed as the best girl in Freestyle snowboard.
For the national ranking the event was used to determine the “Deutschen Meister 2010” (germany champion) gekürt. The new german champion men Freestyle-Ski surprisingly is the 18-year old Marian Hund from Habach. The experienced rider on water Jan Schiegnitz (23,Kiel) could transfer most of his tricks on the frozen lake and won the category Freestyle Snowboard. After three days on the frozen lake all participants as well as the organizer know how to warm but are fully satisfied with the first stage of the Snowkite Worldchampionship at the Reschensee. „We have been the stage for absolute top performance in Snowkiting“, race chief Mike Quasten (GPA; german parakite association) summarizes the sports part of the venue. Organizer Pascal Matzke was happy about the numerous spectators at the unique location for the sport wich offers easy access to the public spectator: „More than 1.000 spectators showed up to the event during the weekend wich so became a kind of missionary project to present snowkiting to the mass – all of the spectators more than happy “. Thus head of local tourism marketing Uli Stampfer of Ferienregion Reschenpass: „We`re glad that we can offer one of the best conditions to stage top snowkiting events and now have the proof by an international top audience of riders. This fascinating sport is an ideal addition to the sports option our region has to offer. This made us the decision easy to commit the next Snowkite WorldChampionship for 2011 also in Reschen. It will be february 4.-.6.th. 2011.”
